In 2019, he announced he was working on Confessions II for a 2020 release.

Raymond (2010), Looking 4 Myself), 2016's Hard II Love, and A from 2019. Usher went on to release five more albums, each to moderate-to-high success but none quite topping his early four: Here I stand (2008), Raymond v. Confessions earned usher tons of awards and accolades, including three Grammy awards. The first single "Yeah!" dominated at No. It sold 1.1 million units at its debut, making it the highest first-week numbers ever recorded by a male R&B Artist. "Confessions", Usher's fourth album, came out in March 2004. Usher was awarded a Grammy for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance for "U Remind Me", and he won the same award the next year for "U Don't Have to Call". "8701", Usher's third album, was released in August 2001 with the leading singles "U Remind Me" and "U GotIt Back" topping the Billboard Hot 100. The album has been certified six-time platinum. It became his first gold and platinum-certified single in the U.S. The lead single "You Make Me Wanna…" reached No.

Usher's second album, My Way, was released in September 1997. On August 30, 1994, Usher's self-titled debut album was released. The label put his record on hold and sent Usher to New York in 1994 to live with Puff Daddy as a singing/coaching "camp". As he was preparing his debut album, he was going through puberty and experiencing difficulties in adjusting his singing voice. They signed Usher on the spot after he auditioned with Boyz II Men's "End of the Road." Usher's mother left her job in order to manage his career. Careerįollowing a performance on Star Search when Usher was 13, a rep from LaFace Records arranged an audition with the co-founder of the record label. In order to help develop his music career, the family moved the family to Atlanta where Usher began recording professionally and making guest vocal appearances. They pushed him when he was nine to join the local church choir in Chattanooga. Born in Texas but raised in Chattanooga, Tennessee, Usher's mother Jonetta and his father Usher Raymond II recognized his vocal talent at a very early age. I Don’t Mind the last single release of 2014 performed the best (I have no idea how, my opinion on the song being that it is perhaps the most dry and empty single ever conceived by Raymond).Usher Raymond IV was born on October 14, 1978. The former was received better commercially than critically and the latter, performed worse. It saddened me that the only other songs on the album that remotely resembled its best song were I Care 4 U and any other similar songs had their bass-lines firmly planted in 140 bpm.Īlas, during his 4-year hiatus he released the first single with what seemed like a step in the right direction with, Good Kisser and was followed by She Came To Give It To You featuring Nicki Minaj with a similar sound. It had the chance to be something truly ground-breaking, a new and original sound, but instead (like Chris Brown) it was squandered in a bid to be “experimental” when it could have simply been great.Įxperimentation isn’t a bad thing by any means, but when it comes at the sacrifice of something which potentially could have been recognised in the vain of Confessions it makes me wonder if it was worth it. Unfortunately, for the most part it was a forgettable affair and Climax was the best song on that album. Quiet Storm mixed with the easy to hate EDM genre was a genius move which i wish had lasted for the entirety of the album that preceded it. Climax was the biggest and best song Raymond had released since about 2008. Produced by Diplo, they set out to create “revolutionary” music and they more or less succeeded. Thus, came what should have been another chance in Climax. Up until this point, Raymond had been with LaFace Records for the entirety of his career, but for his next album, he’d move to RCA Records. Raymond and the Versus EP, neither of which I find favour in in terms of quality, yet it had relatively favourable sales. Ultimately however, it was deemed a commercial failure, even with Love in This Club, Trading Places and Moving Mountains in tow. But with the peak that was Confessions it was bound to pale in comparison no matter how slight the change in reception complexion.

He continued his streak with 2008’s Here I Stand which by itself was far from a slouch.
